Once this little peanut finally fell asleep…. it was game on. She let me do quite a few sets up without a fuss.

I must admit, I’m not a pickle person. Or at least I wasn’t until my 14 month old child convinced me otherwise…..
Sunday mornings are reserved for the Farmer’s Market. Maya and I go to the City Park Farmer’s Market. One Sunday morning in May, Maya and I met “The Pickle People”, as I have been calling them and telling her that that is who we are coming up on seeing while we walk around the market. The first time we tried their pickle samples, Maya signed for “more” of their Jalapeno Honey Dills several times. So I ended up buying a jar. The couple of samples I tried were good but I still wasn’t a pickle person.
That one jar lasted Maya a few weeks. When it was almost done, I finally tried a whole pickle since obviously she liked them so much. Holy cow it was good! The samples just weren’t enough to really experience their amazing flavor.
We got another jar just this past Sunday. That night Maya and I sat on the couch and we (read, mostly I) ate an entire jar!! Maya was so cute. When her little toddler bowl was empty of her cut up pickles, she’d look at it in disbelief, then at me, tilt her head, raise her hands and say, “aeh”. Dangit….. now I had to share more pickles.
I got to spend some time in the kitchen yesterday with Tyler and Justin, the creators and founders of The Real Dill, while they were making a batch of the Habanero Horseradish.
One thing you’ll notice when talking to them is just how passionate they both are. Passionate about pickles, about dill (especially flowering dill), the process, aesthetics of each jar, the experience, everything. Right down to their branding and logo. They spend 3 days a week in the kitchen creating and making hundreds of jars for the markets each week. Now that’s dedication!
Maya even got her own specially made “batch”.
Thank you Justin and Tyler. It was fun!

So tiny and so sweet.
