Colorado family looking to adopt!!!

Only in the last month or so did we start posting about our desires, questions, and current experience privately on Facebook about the process to adopt. What we learned and received in return from posting here and there privately was so much love and support from our friends and family. Not only did we receive comments, but quite a few private messages from friends filled with stories and encouragement. All of this led to being invited to adoption groups, having the ability to connect and ask questions to other parents that have adopted.

Everyone has been so supportive and encouraging!

Path to adoption

Greg and I tried for about 1 1/2 years to add to our family, to no avail. Then in January we sought treatment at a fertility clinic and went through 3 rounds/cycles of IUI, again, to no avail. We took the 1/2 day IVF class and now our next step was IVF, however, we wanted to take a good hard look at other avenues before committing to IVF emotionally, physically, and financially. We thought IUI would have been the easy solution with the success rates, but we seem to have “unexplained infertility” as they couldn’t find anything wrong with either of us to “fix” before doing IUI, minus my extreme Vitamin D deficiency.

No one, not even our family, knew we were trying or even went to a fertility clinic at first. I had so much shame in not being able to get things done naturally. Infertility can be a very lonely road. Compounded by the barrage of pregnancy announcements from friends and family, near and far. However, keeping quiet about things just made it harder.

We spoke to an employee of the state that works in social services to learn all of our options. After this discussion we solidified our decision to adopt. Everything finally felt peaceful and in the right place.

Our little person is out there, and now we have a plan on how to find them.

Domestic Infant/ Open Adoption

Domestic infant adoption feels right for us. Even better than IVF. We will be starting our home study soon and going to meetings and interviews with the adoption agency we selected which is located in Oregon and Washington State. We found an agency that holds the same beliefs as our core values for human rights and equality, along with having no religious affiliation. From the very first conversation it just felt right with this agency. Our orientation with them is already booked for July in Washington State where we will attended a day and half seminar, then have our interview and record a video for expectant parents.

We fully support an open adoption. We welcome the expectant family into our lives and look forward to having a conversation about what our open adoption with the birth family looks like.

Designated Adoption

Another reason we are putting this out there, is there is another form of adoption called “Designated Adoption” this is where one can adopt a family member, friend’s baby, friend of a friend’s baby, etc where the birth parents and adoptive parents find each other, outside of using agencies, and then need to come together with a facilitator and lawyers to make everything legal, etc.

Who knows maybe you or someone you know is looking for a family to place your unborn baby with.

Please share!

If you feel like meeting us to connect and see, please contact us at anytime at

We also have a family website we can share with you that has far more information about us, our family and life, pictures, and our desires that would be better to share and show expectant parents.

Our Family

We are a Colorado family looking to adopt. Our family consist of Greg, myself, and our 6 year old Maya. We really enjoy Colorado and its gorgeous scenery, small mountain towns, four seasons, and lack of humidity! 😉 As a family we enjoy hiking, Jazz at the Park, family movie or game night, celebrating all birthdays, gardening, photography, traveling and vacations in an Airstream or finding a cool AirBnB.

The pets on our family include Breck, our fluffy orange and white feline. Mars, our 1 year old Labrador mix, 6 dart frogs, and several fish. A couple of fish are in a special tank for aquaponics, where we get to grow lettuce, spinach, and basil indoors. I really hope to add turtles one day when space allows.

Derby ready family!

We, er Maya and I, love dressing up for Halloween. Greg plays along for the day or festival! 😉 Here we are with Halloween through the years. Pirates (2013), Fairies (2016), Cirque Du Soleil – Kurios (2015), and Disney’s Frozen family (2014)

She’d be a wonderful big sister to any little in our home. We really enjoy watching her with her toddler brother at her Daddy & Emmy’s house.

  • Jamie Kraus - Adoption is a such a great way to grow a family. (I think that and fostering are the best ways!). There are so many kids out there who need loving families and I’m so happy you are willing to provide that for one of them! Congrats on starting your journey! Adoption, and having a kid any way, should be so much cheaper and, dare I say, government subsidized!ReplyCancel
