Where does time go? – Denver Baby Photographer

Life with Maya…….. I’m not really sure how Maya is already 9 months old. I ALWAYS get the statements of, “oh you must have hundreds of pictures of her.” The answer is, yes I do. But she is also my hardest subject to photograph. I tried 3 times for a studio infant session and ended up using images when she was 1-2 months for her birth announcements. To her, I am mom. Not a “stranger” per se, that is keeping their distance and photographing from afar. I am comfort, milk machine, transportation vessel, and playmate.

Her 9 month old photoshoot was by far the hardest especially since she is now crawling. I tried for about 3 minutes before her dad arrived to put her down, back up far enough to photograph her but close enough to grab her if she decided rocks might taste good.

In the end, these 3 out-takes, are my absolute favorites.

Snow Day – Denver Family Children Photographer

October, November and December are really hit or miss with snow and good weather for sessions. I have some families that would love to be “on call” to get the winter wonderland look in their holiday photos and some absolutely not and want to reschedule if there is a chance of snow.

This family just rolled with it on the day of their scheduled session and boy am I glad we did! I think within about 45-50 mins we were physically shooting for a total of 20-30 mins in this one location. Many breaks in between each shot to stand in the sun or warm up quickly in the warm cars that were left running.

LOVE this style, coordination and soft neutral colors with the jeans! Everything went so well with the location.

My beautiful brown eyed girl – Denver Baby Photographer

I use to joke that if this child was born with brown eyes she’d never be photographed since I wouldn’t be able to photograph them. Dark brown eyes are the hardest for me, as I struggle in making sure I get some great catchlights. But now I can’t imagine anything else looking back at me…… when, of course, she decides to look at her mother during photoshoots……

Maya just started sitting up about 3 days ago at 6 1/2 months! And sitting up pretty well. I’ve been making all of her food. (It is really not as time consuming as I thought it would be.) She loves her broccoli and a blend of sauteed onions, chicken, sweet potatoes and pears that I make. Not so much a fan of fruit by themselves yet but with a teeny bit of cinnamon she’ll sometimes eat an apple/pear sauce puree. Seems to be adjusting her daytime nap schedule again but is great at night in going to bed without a problem by 7/7:30pm. Still nursing 3-4 times a night. Currently we are in the middle of a 10-week baby sign language class at Belly Bliss. She’s had her first ear infection. :( First plane ride was to Chicago. Rolls across the room but no crawling yet. Her curls are getting longer, but the sides…. no so much! In the mornings we sometimes, “Curl up your hair”. Which involves just a spray of water and a little scrunching otherwise its a frizzy mess. Her curls typically stay curly the rest of the day after that. Favorite song is, “Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes”. I’m so jealous of her lips. The girl has awesome lips.

In the span of a few days I’ve taken her to some of my favorite locations for photoshoots at this age. Her attire is very Denver for this time of year. 80 degrees one day and 60 degrees the next.

SO MUCH HARDER to photograph your own child!!! Especially when alone. I loose all human form and connection once I put that camera up to my face and then she just looks at everything else.

Almost near impossible at the industrial location. I needed to be far enough away with my 85 but close enough to catch her if she decided to tumble or thought a rock would taste good. Thankfully there was no tumbling and no rocks made their way near her mouth. Did I mention I also had wet wipes on hand…… I love kids in industrial areas. Poor kid is going to hate me one day!

Personally, I don’t edit out drool unless a client ask me to. Not having baby pictures with drool is like not having tummy images or sitting images. All part of that first year!

And yes, she really is always that happy.

The striped sweater is my favorite thing on her at the moment. I just love it!

I love this specific image by the brick wall as it was the best one to show all of her great chunks, all 17 something pounds of her. And she really does crack herself up sometimes. The jean skirt is another favorite of mine.
