Great idea I found on Pinterest. Let your child color the mat in the frame displaying an image of them at that age.

I think I have some competition coming up! Going to have to get her her own watermark next!
A follow up to this post.
I love giving kids cameras. It was one of my favorite things to do when I worked at a Children’s Hospital. You never knew what you’d see or get out of it. Kids have a totally different perspective.
Right now, hands down, the easiest camera for Maya to use is PhotoJoJo’s Zumi. I have the older model that I purchased a few years ago. It doesn’t do all the cool filters like the new one does. Just color or B&W.
It’s fun. Easy to operate. Most importantly, slips right into the diaper bag!
The Zumi has some fun effects. There’s really no viewfinder but honestly all I want her to learn is to hold out the camera and press the button. We’ll move onto cameras that are a little more involved as she gets older. I have a slight obsession with toy and vintage cameras, so there’s plenty for her to play with one day.

Your phone and some really cool apps is all it takes! But I can’t stress enough…. backup. backup. Backup!! Backup your point n shoot. Backup your phone images.
I patiently waited and was finally able to upgrade my phone and got the iPhone 4s. Super cool phone! It’s also pretty slick in having the capability in taking semi-decent pictures. Ones I’d even print up to 5×5.
Since getting the iPhone, I’ve started a 365 plus 1 project of Life with Maya. Doing a basic Tumblr roll but also printing them out.
Do you have any special projects you do to document your child’s life, growth and development?

Life with Maya…….. I’m not really sure how Maya is already 9 months old. I ALWAYS get the statements of, “oh you must have hundreds of pictures of her.” The answer is, yes I do. But she is also my hardest subject to photograph. I tried 3 times for a studio infant session and ended up using images when she was 1-2 months for her birth announcements. To her, I am mom. Not a “stranger” per se, that is keeping their distance and photographing from afar. I am comfort, milk machine, transportation vessel, and playmate.
Her 9 month old photoshoot was by far the hardest especially since she is now crawling. I tried for about 3 minutes before her dad arrived to put her down, back up far enough to photograph her but close enough to grab her if she decided rocks might taste good.
In the end, these 3 out-takes, are my absolute favorites.

About a 10 minute session before she remembered Mommy is for nursing and saw that there were far more important things to look at and get to to investigate at the studio. So much harder to photograph your own child!
Happy Friday!
